Short version: this site knows as little about you as a website can.

What we collect about visitors

• No accounts, no registration.
• No tracking cookies. The site sets no cookies of its own.
• Anonymous usage statistics. We run our own Umami instance at stats.shadowfleet.watch to count page views, referrers, browser types and visitor countries. We also count vessel profile openings, views lasting at least 15 seconds in a visible tab, event page views, successful event link copies and replay starts. These actions include public vessel identifiers and names, the event identifier and type when applicable, and where the action began. Search text is not included in these custom events. It sets no cookies, does not store IP addresses and cannot follow you to other sites. The data never leaves our own server.
• Temporary tab storage. We keep action timestamps in session storage to limit repeated counts for the same vessel or event within 30 minutes. This contains no generated visitor identifier and is cleared when the tab session ends.
• Standard server logs (IP address, requested URL, time) are processed transiently by our hosting providers (Vercel for the pages, our own server for the data API) to serve requests and prevent abuse.

What the site shows about vessels

All vessel information displayed here originates from public sources: AIS radio broadcasts that ships transmit openly by design and by regulation, official government sanctions lists, and public reference datasets (ports, cables, pipelines). The site concerns commercial vessels, not private individuals. Observations are presented as indicators derived from this public data, not as allegations.

Third parties

• Map fonts and sprites are loaded from Protomaps' public asset host.
• JavaScript libraries are loaded from public CDNs (unpkg, esm.sh).

If advertising is introduced on this site in the future, this policy and the site's consent handling will be updated accordingly before any ads are shown.
